The Importance of Intangibles in the Changing Job Market
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009,
5:00– 6:30 p.m., with Reception to Follow
Finding a Job that's Right for You
The classes of 2010, 2011, and 2012 are the "guinea pigs" for firms re-thinking hiring, training, billing and compensation. Smart job searches are the key to success. Walk into your next interview knowing what makes a future employer right for you so you can tell them why you're right for them.
And then what?
Soft Skills Bridge the Gap from Foot in the Door to Employment Offer
Join Jessie Kornberg, Executive Director, Ms. JD and three BigLaw hiring partners for a panel discussion of the intangibles to success job hunting and career advancement: how to utilize professor & attorney mentorships, foster professional networks, and effectively self-promote within those relationships.
Practice Make Perfect
Following the panel discussion join members of WLALA and the Beverly Hills Bar Association for a reception in the courtyard and put the advice on intangibles to use!
This Ms. JD & NWLSO event is made possible by generous support from McGuireWoods, a 2009 Best Law Firm for Women Award Winner.
Please note: Parking at UCLA is limited. $10 garage parking and credit card enabled metered parking is available on the campus, but carpooling is strongly recommended.
For more information contact Jessie Kornberg (kornberg@ms-jd.org).

Legal Public Service Corps
LACBA Spearheads Effort to Provide Attorneys with Externship Opportunities
05 August 2009
LACBA Spearheads Effort to Provide Attorneys with Externship Opportunities
The Litigation Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association announces the creation of the Legal Public Service Corps.
In an effort to address the unprecedented number of attorneys, recent law school graduates, and law students who have either lost their jobs or are currently unable to find employment in the law during these tough economic times, LACBA’s new Legal Public Service Corps seeks to bring together the skills of recent law school graduates and law students with the public sector (local government) and nonprofit organizations that provide invaluable services to our community.
Now, more than ever, with shrinking budgets and reduced charitable contributions, city and county governments, courts, and nonprofits need the assistance of talented lawyers. Moreover, through the Legal Public Service Corps, lawyers and law students can gain public service experience while contributing to the Los Angeles community.
LACBA leadership strongly believes in the importance of promoting legal talent in the public service arena. On September 11, LACBA will host the Legal Public Service Corps Symposium where interested pro bono extern candidates can meet face-to-face with public sector and nonprofit participants to discuss externship opportunities and learn more about the organizations.
In advance of the September 11 Symposium, interested extern candidates can visit the LACBA Web site to research each potential employer and its available externships. The Web site additionally facilitates the submission of resumes, writing samples, and other relevant materials to the courts, city, county, and nonprofits.
The Legal Public Service Corps continues LACBA’s tradition of leading initiatives that benefit not only the legal community but also the larger Los Angeles community as well. Those interested in an externship should visit the Legal Public Service Corps homepage to learn more about the program and the September 11 Symposium.
